Accessibility statement
We want everyone to be able to use the Fishwake website, including people with disabilities. This page sets out what we have done, what isn't perfect yet, and how to reach us.
Accessibility level
The site has been adapted to the requirements of the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Accessibility Adjustments for Service) Regulations, 5773-2013, and of Israeli Standard 5568 Part 1 (2023), level AA, which is based on the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. We have also checked it against WCAG 2.1 level AA.
This statement covers the fishwake.com website in all six of its languages, and the Fishwake app for Android and iPhone (see “The app” below).
What we have made accessible
- Every link and button works with a keyboard, and the focused item is clearly marked.
- A “Skip to content” link at the top of every page.
- A hierarchical heading structure and labelled navigation regions for screen readers.
- Alternative text on images that carry information; decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
- Text and background contrast at level AA, including text shown over a photo.
- Text can be enlarged to 200% in the browser without losing content or scrolling sideways.
- Every page declares its language and writing direction, so screen readers use the right language.
- The site respects your system’s “Reduce motion” setting and turns animations off.
- The site adapts to phones, tablets and computers.
No accessibility overlay
The site does not use an external accessibility plugin or toolbar. The adaptations are made in the site’s own code, so they work with the tools you already use: your screen reader, browser zoom and your device’s accessibility settings.
The app
The Fishwake app uses the accessibility features built into Android and iOS: it follows the text size set on your device, works with the built-in screen readers (TalkBack and VoiceOver), and lays out Hebrew and Arabic from right to left. It has not yet had a full accessibility audit. Charts and the map are not yet fully described to screen readers.
Known limitations
- The app screenshots are illustrations; what they show is described in the text beside them.
- The data-deletion page is available in English and Hebrew only. The privacy policy and terms of use are available in all six languages.
- We have not yet tested the site with screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack).
- The app stores (Google Play and the App Store) are external sites, and their accessibility is the responsibility of their operators.
How we checked
On October 15, 2026 we checked the site with automated tools (axe-core 4.13 and Google Lighthouse), in a current version of Chrome at computer and phone widths, and by hand: keyboard-only navigation and visible focus, the skip link, each page’s language and writing direction, heading order, text alternatives, colour contrast, text enlarged to 200% and a 320-pixel-wide screen without sideways scrolling, and the “Reduce motion” setting. The level AA issues we found were fixed.
