Habitat
Coral reefs, hard bottom, and patch reefs at 3-30 m depth in the western Atlantic. Found rooting through sand near reef.
Behavior
Wrasse-family fish that forages for mollusks, sea urchins, and crabs on the reef. Protogynous hermaphrodite.
